LSU Last Chance Meet

On a day that began at 7:00am and ended at 11:00pm the 2020 Indoor regular season came to close this Saturday, Feb 8th, at the Carl Maddox Field House on the beautiful Louisiana State University campus. In what is known as the LSU – Last Chance Meet, named because it is the last opportunity for an athlete to qualify for the State Indoor Championships, the Holy Savior Menard Eagles left it all on the track in their combined efforts to make it to the final meet of the year on the weekend of Feb 23rd. Behind the effort of 6 Personal Records (PRs) several of our student athletes pushed their way into the Menard Record Books as well as the spotlight of the state meet!

Aly Jo Warren jumped a season best 14’ 11.25” in the long jump while also clearing 10’ 11.75” in the Pole Vault. Frank Lemoine set a new SCHOOL RECORD in the 400 meters, 5th time setting the 400m record this year, besting his previous time with a 55.16, he also set a new PR in the 800m with a time of 2:12.36. Charles Beard set a new PR in the 1600m (1 mile) with a time of 4:59.81, marking the first time he has run under 5 minutes in the race. Kyron Lewis also set a PR of 8.05 in the 60 meter dash, and Kannin Cole ran a season best 14:31.83 in the 3200m (2 Mile) and 6:10.80 in the 1600m. Quinn Brown ran 13:19.72 in her 3200m race and 2:54.75 in the 800m. Eli Watkins and Cyrus Cox ran 11:06.05 and 10:21.44 respectively in the 3200m for the boys team, with Danielle Krill running 6:47.20 in the 1600 to finish up the girls.

The season will conclude in two weeks, back at LSU, with the Division II State Indoor Championships where Holy Savior Menard will have several athletes competing for individual State Championships in their respective events. If you have limited experience with Indoor Track our athletes will compete not only against other 2A competitors, but in Division II they will compete against all public and select schools 1A-3A. Only 12 athletes make it to the state meet in each running event and 16 in each field event making it a very prestigious honor to be able to compete.

Holy Savior Menard will have 7 athletes, 5 boys and 2 girls, that are automatically qualified by their performances in the 5 regular season meets to compete in the state competition, and 3 athletes that are "on the bubble" with an opportunity to compete depending on whether or not he automatic qualifiers choose to compete in the event. (believe it or not this happens very often) Those athletes are as follows:

Frank Lemoine: Currently ranked 7th in the 800m

Braden Scalisi: Currently ranked 11th in the 1600m

Cyrus Cox: Currently ranked 3rd in the 3200m
