Midland High Invitational

What a WEEK! In case you were living under a rock this week you may have realized we got an epic rain storm this past Wednesday, 9/23, that unfortunately prevented us from being able to have the 2020 Menard Open. Lucky we are able to reschedule the event for Saturday, October 17th, and hope that everyone is able to make it out to Buhlow that morning! However as everyone knows in Cross Country there is no time to sit around and pout... it's on to the next race!

This weekend we traveled to the Midland High Invitational to compete in what would be our largest test of the year! The course was fairly wet and muddy, which certainly affected the speed of the runners, but as we always say, "the course is the same for everyone!". Although both Varsity teams were without some key runners, the guys and girls preformed awesome, but outside of another epic performance from boys captain Charles Beard (we'll get to him in a minute) it was the JV team that made huge strides and recorded some very impressive PRs!!!

     Varsity Boys Results:

The boys team this week were running without Carter Byers and Aaron Cantrell, but they ran their butts off and were still able to finish the meet in 3rd as a team overall only 2 points behind Midland for 2nd! VERY IMPRESSIVE EFFORT GUYS!  Speaking of IMPRESSIVE... Team captain Charles Beard (told you we would get back to him) accomplished something that only 17 other runners have ever accomplished at Holy Savior Menard, running sub-17:00 in the 3 mile and finishing 2nd overall in the boys race with a fantastic time of 16:58! Mikey DeRosa finished just above his PR with a run of 18:33 and finishing 10th overall. David Shepherd ran his best race of the year, working his way back towards his PR that he set near the end of the year last year and finishing 22nd with a 20:42. Austin Seibeneicher had another great race finishing 24th overall with a time of  20:52, Noah Gad posted a 31st place finish with a time of 21:12, and Jake Noda rounded out the boys varsity team with a year best 21:41!

     Varsity Girls Results:

The girls team was without Emma DeRosa, who was competing, and crushing other competitors, in a triathlon this weekend, but was able to fight and scape out a 2nd place team finish with tremendous efforts from the girls! Quinn Brown was the first to cross the line for the HSM team finishing 5th place overall with a valiant effort of 22:10! Kannin Cole was next in 6th place with a race time of 22:30, fighting every step of the way through a very strong group of runners over the last mile! Meredith Seeling finished 10th and ran a season best time of 23:19, continuing to progress and putting herself in a strong position to break through in the next few races! Abbey Scalisi was the next HSM runner across the line in 15th with a strong time of 23:48 showing that hard work really does pay off! Amie Cochran finished 19th in the race and pushed her way through the crowd to run a near season best  24:44.

Chesney Mathews finished 21st, overcoming some seemingly insurmountable odds and conditions, to run a time of 25:46. Danielle Krill rounded out the varsity girls team with a 25th overall finish and a time of 27:32.
